Accessory Update: Detachable QWERTY Keyboard for the Note 5 and S6 Edge+

No matter how much we progress with communication technologies and touch interfaces, some things can never be replaced. Anyone missing the physical keyboard in their phones? Yes, they were a bit rigid and not as smooth as the virtual keyboards that we get today. But they were reliable and there are still many users who would prefer the physical keyboards to any keyboard app.

Samsung has brought out a detachable keyboard for the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+. Why has Samsung suddenly brought out this accessory? Well, it seems that the detachable keyboard cover isn’t the only accessory that has been developed. So far, Samsung has announced fast wireless charging pads, fast charging battery packs, clear view cover cases, clear covers, glossy covers, S View covers, Flip wallets, and even Glitter covers. However, the keyboard cover is the one which really stood out from the rest. People who might have had Blackberry devices can relate to the comfort provided by physical keyboards.

Keyboard for the Note 5 and S6 Edge+

The new QWERTY keyboard has been “designed for heavy-duty typing” and gets a “dedicated UI when on the front” of the phone. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy comfortable typing and manual navigation during lengthy chat sessions, emails, social media updates and conversations? It feels perfect in the hand and gives us the experience of using mobile phones of yesteryears. The detachable keyboard offers one benefit that was not available in the old phones. When you are done using the keyboard, you can swap it around to the back to keep it out of the way.

The detachable keyboard is a great addition to the upcoming smartphones by Samsung and will definitely bring back the user experience of yesteryears. Maybe this is what Samsung needs at the moment to get back their lost market share, especially in emerging markets like India. Only time will tell whether people are able to accept this physical keyboard cover with smartphones because keyboard apps like SwiftKey work hard to redefine user experience by providing great typing experience.
