LG may be one of the biggest names in the global consumer electronics industry but it is a minor player in the Smartphone market. For some reasons, it has just not been able to cut it with its Smartphone products. With the launch of G3, the company hopes to change this position. This phone is expected to go on sale in the United States this summer.
The G3 will be LG’s flagship phone so it was but obvious that its features have been designed to give stiff competition to rival brands, the most important rival brings Samsung. Not only does it have a larger and higher resolution display than other Smartphones in the segment, but it also the first mobile device to have a laser based auto focus system. Such use of laser technology for making auto focus highly accurate has never been done before for any Smartphone.
The phone features 5.5-inch, 538 pixels-per-inch display. With this screen size, the G3 easily manages to compete with phablets. It is even larger than the 5 inch screen mobile devices which have become a trend in the high end Android Smartphones such as HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S5. If we consider the resolution of G3, then it is evident that it simply beats the resolution provided by Apple’s iPhone (which has a resolution of 326 ppi).
Taking a clue from Samsung’s effective mobile market strategy, LG held a global press event on 26th May so unveil its latest flagship Smartphone and to share key insights. The proceedings of the event were simulcast across the globe via a close circuit television. In the event, LG officials refuted the claim made by Apple that the human eye is incapable of differentiating between the retina display resolution and any display that has a higher resolution. James Marshall, head of mobile product marketing for LG Electronics Europe, said, “That’s a misconception. Consumers can expect ever clearer and more vivid images. To get the ultra-high resolution, the display in the G3 has smaller-than normal pixels, which will allow for sharper images and better color accuracy”
The laser based auto focus system in the G3 has also become a topic of discussion for tech enthusiasts as this is the first time that such a technology has been implemented on a commercial scale for a Smartphone device. While this technology has been used for cameras, this is the first for a Smartphone device. A laser emitter placed near the camera system helps to achieve the super fast auto focus and this can be quite a boon when you need to take pictures with great focus and superb quality. It is able to focus on any object in less than three-tenths of a second. Now this is what we call lightning fast processing speed.
Other features include an innovative keyboard, a new personal virtual assistant that complements the Google Now service and a large enough battery (3000 mAh). The battery’s capacity would ensure that the device receives enough juices to keep the system running despite the relatively high power consumption that would be done due to the high processing requirements of the device.
As of now, no concrete evidence is available to prove the Smartphone’s capabilities in a real world scenario. Only time will tell whether the phone is able to up the ante for the business or it proves to be just another overly hyped up mobile device.
