Blackberry has finally come out with Z3 – a decent phone that could give good competitions to other smartphones in the budget friendly phones segment. It was also received pretty well at the Indonesian launch which was held a month back. There are also rumours about a possible launch for this device tomorrow as invites have been sent to members of the press for a special event. However, the agenda of the event has still not been disclosed. But with the recent launches, it is expected that Blackberry could launch the Z3 in the Indian market tomorrow. As for specifications, the device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2GHz dual core processor and an Adreno 305 GPU. The processor is based on ARM for enhanced performance. The RAM is also decent enough for the price value of the phone. It has 1.5 GB RAM and a 5-inch 540 x 960 pixel (220ppi) display.
The camera quality for the phone is also decent enough with a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera and a 1.1-megapixel fixed-focus front-facing camera. The storage capacity may not be the best in the category as it has 8GB inbuilt storage while the expandable memory supports up to 32 GB additional space. This should be sufficient for the average user but is definitely not enough for the entertainment lover.
The battery has a charge capacity of 2500mAh which is capable of delivering 15.5 hours of talk time. However, you would have to charge the battery frequently if you have excessive phone usage requirements. This could be a deterrence for the “love-birds” who are always found using their phone for either calling or sending a text to the “love of their life”.
In terms of connectivity, the phone has decent options which include support for WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, NFC, Micro-USB and GPS. Now with the Blackberry brand supporting the Z3, you can definitely expect the inclusion of services such as BlackBerry Hub, BBM, Time Shift, Story Maker camera features, and BB10 browser. Now comes the most important aspect of the phone – the cost! The phone was valued at 2,199,000 Indonesian rupiah, which converts into a really affordable INR 11,000. With all the features that the company is offering in this device, this could go on to give some serious competition to budget smartphones. But hold on just a minute! The final price for the Indian market is yet to be determined. However, the price would not deviate excessively from the 11k mark.
Blackberry is a former reigning champion of the Indian Electronics Good market and was known for its services, especially the quality of its protective layers which helped to maintain secure communication. But the recent surge of various smartphone brands have given stiff competition to Blackberry which is now struggling to hold on to its market share. The new Z3 could be a game changer for the company as the phone has some seriously amazing features which is endowed with greater value owing to the affordability of the phone. Let’s hope that Blackberry is able to revive its presence as a market leader in India.
