Nokia recently announced the Lumia 530 which is a successor to the Lumia 520 and 525. It has already been launched in various markets. This new device comes with the latest Microsoft operating system called the Windows Phone 8.1. The Windows Phone 8.1 is a considerable improvement over the previous generation of operating system. It comes with an improved interface and has got a lot more features like the Action Center and the smart digital voice assistant Cortana. While the Nokia Lumia 520 was a dual core device, this one is quad core. It comes with 512 MB of RAM and has got 4 GB of internal storage. While there are some improvements from the 520 like the powerful processor, there are some areas where they have gone for components from the past like on camera. So it is clear that the Lumia 530 is a mixed bag. We take a look at some of the rivals of this device.
It was recently announced that Motorola has buzzed past Nokia in terms of the volume of sales. The success can be credited to a large extent to this and the Moto G both these devices offered excellent value for money and forced the rivals to try and achieve even competitive prices. The Moto E is quite an impressive device for its price. It comes with a Qualcomm dual core processor and has got the same GPU as the Nokia Lumia 530. However it has got 1 GB of RAM so a fair bit of multitasking is possible. It comes with the latest version of android and it is expected to receive the next major android update as well.
The device comes with 4 GB of internal storage which is very low but unlike Moto G, this device comes with a micro SD card slot. The design of this device isn’t very attractive but it isn’t bad either. The 4.3 inch display is quite good with a decent resolution. It gets Gorilla Glass 3 protection to save against scratches. It is a dual SIM device and comes with a large battery. This is really a pretty good device if you are looking for stock android experience on a budget. The device comes with a 5 megapixel fixed focus camera which is a let-down but that is similar to what you get on the Lumia 530. You don’t get a flash with the primary camera and there is no secondary camera on the device.
Lava Iris X1
This device was launched as a rival to the Moto E. while the Moto E has got just a dual core processor. This one comes with a quad core processor. The chipset has been manufactured by Broadcom so there is some cost cutting here in terms of components. They haven’t compromised on RAM though and it gets 1 GB of RAM. The quad core processor is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The internal storage is the same 4 GB and it gets micro SD card slot. It has got an 1800 mAh battery which is fairly decent.
The device comes with a 4.5 inch display. While the size is good, the resolution isn’t. It has got a resolution of just 480 x 854 pixels which is fairly low for a display this size. It comes with an 8 megapixel primary camera which is pretty good. It comes with dual LED flash. The design of this device is also quite impressive.
Asus Zenfone 4
Asus recently launched some really impressive devices under the Zenfone name. These devices run on Intel chipsets and offer fairly decent specifications at an attractive price tag. The Zenfone 4 has got a 4 inch display as the name suggests and has a resolution of 480 x 800 which is very average. It gets an Intel dual core processor which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. It has got 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Intel devices perform pretty good and you will get decent benchmark scores from this device. It has got a 5 megapixel primary camera but there is no flash. On the front it gets a 0.3 megapixel camera which would be just enough for video calls. This hardware is powered by a 1600 mAh battery.
Micromax Unite 2
If you are looking for a large screen device in the same price tag, you might want to look at the Micromax Unite 2. It comes with a fairly big 4.7 inch display however this being a budget device, the resolution is quite low. It is just 480 x 800 and on a 4.7 inch display, you can easy spot the individual pixels. Get over this fact and the rest of the device is fairly decent. It has got a 1.3 GHz quad core processor and 1 GB of RAM. It comes with 4 GB internal storage and supports micro SD cards. The primary camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and has got a LED flash. The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels. It is powered by a 2000 mAh battery.
Lava Xolo Q600S
This is another decent android device that would be a nice alternative to the Lumia 530. The Q600S has got a quad core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. It has got 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. This device looks fairly decent with its sharp rectangular design. The display size is 4.5 inches but thankfully the resolution is better than the Iris X1 and Unite 2. It has got a 540 x 960 pixel display which would give an acceptable pixel density. It is powered by a 2000 mAh battery which is pretty decent for the device. It has got a 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash. There is a 0.3 megapixel secondary camera as well. It runs android 4.4 KitKat which is very close to stock. If you like a device with large display, we would recommend this one over the Iris X1 and Unite 2 for the slightly higher display resolution.
