Share Public Tweets Via Direct Message on Twitter in 3 Easy Steps

It’s less than a day since an important update for Twitter was announced. Twitter users can now share public tweets via direct message. This will definitely trigger new rounds of private discussions without letting the world know about your directions or opinions unless you specifically want them to. Now this is an update that would be pretty interesting to check out.

What is the New Feature All About?

Apparently, URL’s through direct messages were made inactive for quite a long time. This service seems to have been enabled again and the immediate impact of this change is evident in Twitter’s new feature where public tweets can be sent through direct messages. This was not possible before and more than often, discussions had to be kept in public view. With this modification, you can initiate private discussions and keep out anyone who you would not like to bring into the conversation.

This feature is included in Twitter’s latest update and will be available for Web, Tweetdeck, Android and iOS platforms. It is expected that the update would roll out today itself, but there is still a lack of clarity for the desktop app update as no official information or confirmation was provided for this. Tweetdeck for Mac and the desktop app should receive this update soon enough.

Sachin Agarwal, product manager at Twitter, shared on the official blog of the company, “With today’s update you’ll be able to share a Tweet privately with any of your followers. To do this from your mobile app, long-press the Tweet in your timeline and choose ‘Share via Direct Message”. This indicates that using the mobile app would be a much more feasible option than using the desktop or the web version.

Step 2: Long press the tweet (present on your timeline)

Step 3: Select ‘Share via Direct Message’ from the options.

However, there are users who access Twitter on the web or from Tweetdeck. So here are the steps to share the tweet via DM on these platforms.

How Will The Notifications Be Managed?

As soon as you share a tweet with a specific user, that person would be notified with a push notification. Subsequently, the tweet would appear directly in the conversation and things would be kept private.

From a marketing perspective, this could open up a world of opportunities if things are channelized properly. It’s nice to have some privacy on social network, especially for those who are not too keen on disclosing or voicing their opinions publically. As of now, this feature appears to be more of a value addition than being a must-have functionality.
